The risk: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.

The fix, as filed: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the ABS fuse, free of charge. Service brakes

What NHTSA says: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Elantra sedan, coupe and GT vehicles. The brake pedal stopper pad can deteriorate allowing the brake light switch plunger to remain extended when the brake pedal is released. This will allow the brake lights to remain illuminated continuously. It can also allow the shift lever to be moved without depressing the brake pedal, or activate the engine management brake pedal override feature.

The risk: If the brake light switch plunger does not retract as it should when the brake pedal is not being pressed, the brake lights may stay illuminated preventing accurate communication to following vehicles that the vehicle is slowing or stopping. Additionally, if the brake switch plunger is not retracted, then the transmission can be shifted out of PARK without depressing the brake pedal. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.

The fix, as filed: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake pedal stopper pad, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 8, 2018. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 170. This campaign expands recall 16V574.

2014 Hyundai Elantra recalls: common questions

How many recalls does the 2014 Hyundai Elantra have?

NHTSA lists 2 recall campaigns for the 2014 Hyundai Elantra as of November 1, 2026. Each campaign covers some or all vehicles of that model year, so not every car is affected by every recall.

How do I check if my 2014 Hyundai Elantra has an open recall?

Enter the 17-character VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or on the manufacturer's own recall page. That lookup shows the recalls still unrepaired on that one car, which this page cannot do. The VIN is on the driver's side of the dashboard, seen through the windshield, and on your registration card.

Do I have to pay for a recall repair?

Under federal law the manufacturer generally has to fix a safety recall at no charge to the owner. There are limits, for example for vehicles first sold more than 15 years before the recall was issued (5 years for tires). A Hyundai dealer does the work, so call one with your VIN to book it.

What do "do not drive" and "park outside" mean on a recall?

They are warnings NHTSA flags on some campaigns. Do not drive means the manufacturer advises owners not to drive affected vehicles until the repair is done. Park outside means it advises parking affected vehicles outdoors and away from buildings because of a fire risk. For the 2014 Hyundai Elantra, 1 campaign carry the park-outside flag.
